What You ll Do
- Collaborate with pediatric providers to evaluate patients and determine when surgery is necessary
- Provide preoperative, operative, and postoperative care for pediatric patients
- Manage care for patients you admit and support rounding as needed
- Provide weekend surgical consults and respond to consult requests
- Support after-hours coverage with emergency department-driven consults (typically 0 2 calls/day)
- Ensure timely consult response (including emergency consult back and standard response expectations)
What You Need
Required - Board Certified pediatric surgeon (pediatric surgical specialization)
- Experience providing pediatric surgical care, including pre-op, operative, and post-op management
- Ability to cover clinic and call responsibilities as scheduled (M F and weekends)
Preferred - Experience working in systems where consults come primarily from a Pediatric Emergency Department

This locum assignment supports a
community health system in Richmond, Virginia, providing surgical care for pediatric patients ranging from
newborns through teenage years. You ll partner with pediatric providers to assess surgical needs, deliver perioperative care, and provide weekend and after-hours surgical consult coverage primarily driven by the pediatric ED.
