• Shift: 8-hour day shifts (7:00am - 8:00pm); 5 shifts per week

Join a high-acuity cardiac surgery ICU as a locum tenens Physician Assistant (PA-C) in Roanoke, VA. Provide advanced critical care for post-cardiothoracic surgery patients and manage mechanical circulatory support within a supportive, team-oriented environment.

• Active Physician Assistant license (PA-C) in the applicable state or ability to obtain state licensure
• Minimum 1 year experience in critical care, cardiac surgery ICU, or cardiothoracic critical care - critical care PA experience preferred
• Experience with or strong interest in cardiothoracic surgery and advanced mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, LVAD, IABP, Impella)
• Ability to practice autonomously in a fast-paced ICU and collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, and APPs
• Excellent clinical judgment, teamwork, and communication skills
• Willingness to reside in/near Roanoke, VA for the duration of the assignment

• Manage adult patients post-complex cardiothoracic surgeries (aortic surgery, CABG, thoracic, valve procedures)
• Collaborate with attending physicians and advanced practice providers to manage advanced mechanical circulatory support devices (ECMO, IABP, LVADs, Impella, RVADs)
• Perform and maintain competency in ICU procedures: bronchoscopy support, central venous catheter placement, arterial line insertion, chest tube management
• Order and interpret diagnostic studies (labs, imaging, hemodynamic data) and implement timely treatment plans
• Respond to critical and emergent situations with rapid assessment, stabilization, and escalation when needed
• Contribute to optimizing patient experience, satisfaction, and clinical outcomes in the cardiac ICU
