JOB SUMMARY
The Nursing/Activities Assistant at North Mississippi Health Services plays a crucial role in providing support to the Activities Coordinator in planning and executing various programs and events for residents. They also serve as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) when needed, assisting with resident care and ensuring documentation accuracy. The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with residents, families, volunteers, and other staff, fostering a positive and harmonious environment.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Activities Services:

  • Assist the Activities Coordinator in planning, implementing, and evaluation the program’s events,.
  • themes, schedules, decorating the facility.
  • Drive facility van/bus on activity outings, to physician appointments, and other resident related events.
  • Serves in the role of a certified nursing assistant daily (passes, sets up trays, assist residents with meals).
  • Serves in the role of CNA on facility outings.
  • Serves as a CNA in critical staffing shortages.
  • Maintains a neat and organized activity work area.
  • Deliver resident mail.
  • Manages petty cash for resident outings, spending, etc.
    Resident Assessments:
  • Supports the initial and ongoing assessments of residents conditions and activity needs by advising and consulting with the Activities Coordinator.
    Documentation:
  • Ensures the completion and accuracy of Activity Program records with daily entrance in departmental charts, attendance logs, etc.
  • Documentation and scheduling of beauty salon service for residents if needed.
    Supplies/Materials:
  • Organizes, stores, maintains, etc. , the department supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Maintains an active list of supplies needed for facility beauty shop.



    QUALIFICATIONS


    Education
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent It is preferred that incumbent have a high school diploma or its equivalent.. Required

    Licenses and Certifications
  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant. Certification. Upon Hire. Required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support. . Upon Hire. Required

    Work Experience
  • . Prior successful work/volunteer experience, especially with elderly/handicapped persons, is. Preferred

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge and skill in serving adult populations, primarily geriatrics is very
  • Important for successful performance in this position
  • Above average communication skills are needed to enable the incumbent to be effective in this position.
  • Utilizes and cares for equipment on nursing unit as needed.
  • Must meet continuing education requirements
  • Maintains knowledge and resources necessary to provide appropriate age specific care.
  • Must be able to recognize changes in patient condition and report same.
  • Meets annual review requirements.
  • Must be able to prioritize patient care, carry out assigned duties, reports and/or document utilizing worksheets.
  • The incumbent carries secondary accountability for the success of the activity program,under the supervision of the Activities Coordinator. Creativity and
  • resourcefulness are critical performance characteristics in this position, especially in the area of one-to-one activities with room-bound residents.
  • The incumbent will be in constant contact with residents, families, volunteers, and other staff, and therefore will need acceptable skills in communication to be effective.
