Location/Department:  Hospital - OB New Beginnings

64/pp Dayshift - benefits eligible 

Job Summary:

Functions as a team member of the OB department and supports the patient's health care team providing compassionate, cost-effective patient care, emphasizing the delivery of quality and effective utilization of resources to maintain a high standard of patient satisfaction. The OB tech will be responsible for providing basic physical care and other advanced technical care to patients as designated. Maintains confidentiality of information regarding patients personal, and hospital business. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

 Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates professional responsibility in the OB Tech role
  • Maintains confidentiality when interacting with patients, families, personnel and the public
  • Assists licensed personnel as needed, within the standards of the OB unit
  • Under the direction of the RN performs tasks as needed
  • Assists in transporting patients
  • Properly uses selected equipment and monitors patient environment
  • Sets up sterile equipment for delivery
  • Prepares labor room and post-partum rooms for patient occupancy, and assists with clean up
  • Washes instruments and packages them for sterilization
  • Performs clerical tasks to assist nursing personnel
  • Fully utilizes the HIS system
  • Performs daily routine duties, shift census and acuity reports, outpatient census form and charges
  • Collection of data from parents and filling out birth certificates information sheet for Medical
  • Completion and witnessing of Paternity Declaration forms
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Handling of contaminated linen/clothing
  • Handling of contaminated sharps/tools
  • Handling of contaminated surgical instruments
  • Cleaning of surfaces/equipment with contaminated body fluids
  • Insertion of tubes or other equipment into body cavities
  • Respond to codes
  • Respond to infant abduction
  • Handling of contaminated trash

 Required Skills/Abilities:

  • BLS certification required
  • Experience in surgery or OB nursing required
  • C.N.A. certification (Optional)
  • Fetal Monitoring (Optional)

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience as a Unit Clerk is desirable
  • Medical Terminology is strongly desired

Physical Requirements:

  • Constant walking, standing, talking & use of hands; frequent reaching.
  • May need to lift up to 25 lbs; occasionally up to 50 lbs 
  • Heavy: Frequent lifting, not more than 100 pounds (with help) and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds
