Overview: Responsible for the day-to-day operations and professional nursing practice of assigned unit(s). Responsible for hiring and firing of nursing personnel, periodic employee evaluations, orientation of new employees, and performance improvement activities. Responsible for cost center(s) budgets. Supervises RN's, Patient Care Associates, Clerical Associates and other clinical support personnel. Coaches and mentors the Assistant Nurse Manager, if applicable, for succession planning. Qualifications: Required Education: Bachelor's degree - New hires effective August 1, 2013, must have a BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing. Preferred Education: Master of Science Degree in Nursing Necessary Skills: Demonstrates teamwork and communicates in a professional manner with all members of the healthcare team Demonstrates a willingness to learn new methods, procedures and techniques resulting from departmental or organization change. Adapts quickly and easily to change and adjusted behavior and approach to work when necessary to achieve goals. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to function independently. Demonstrated management skills, conflict resolution, and negotiation techniques. Knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Unit Contract requirements Required Licensure/Certifications: -Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida -BLS from the American Heart Association -Effective January 1, 2015, all new hires or transfers must have a professional certification within two years of hire or transfer. -For certifications that require a specified number of cases or hours worked within the specialty, the certification must be applied for once the case/time requirement has been met, and the certification must be obtained within one year of the requirement having been met (e.g. oncology, chemotherapy, diabetes education). Required Experience: 1-2 years management or demonstrated leadership experience in the clinical setting or the equivalent. -AND- 3-5 years clinical experience in the acute care setting or the equivalent. Preferred Experience: Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with demonstrated increasing responsibilities. Working knowledge of hospital operations, including the patient placement process and nurse staffing. Demonstration of ability to build interdisciplinary teams and working relationships.
