Location/Department:  Hospital - Cardiac Rehab

PRN

Job Summary:

Renders professional nursing care to patients in the Cardiac Rehab program in accordance with physician orders & established department policies & procedures. Assess patient’s conditions, provides treatment, observes, reports & records pertinent observation & response to treatment & exercise.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Uses only approved abbreviations.
  • Understands patient safety goals & actions taken.
  • Demonstrates awareness of patient rights.
  • Uses 2 patient identifiers before giving treatments, demonstrates process.
  • Understands read back of verbal orders/critical lab values & can state process.
  • Understands procedure to clarify physician orders.
  • Uses standing orders when indicated.
  • Reports sentinel events or adverse reactions/incidents as warranted.
  • Perform initial evaluation for entry into program.
  • Develop individual exercise prescriptions for patients.
  • Supervise exercise sessions.
  • Provides inpatient & outpatient education regarding cardiac rehab for patient & family.
  • Maintains competencies in Cardiac Rehab area.

  • Structure teaching experience, in depth knowledge of cardiac & pulmonary disease states

  • Requires working with treadmills, ergometers, telemetry equipment, monitors, computers, telephone & various battery operated medical equipment

Qualifications

  • Minimum Associate’s degree in nursing, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience required.
  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Indiana.
  • Certification in American Heart Association BLS & ACLS, including advanced ECG recognition skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent walking, sitting & talking; occasional pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, standing, reaching, manual dexterity & use of hands.
  • Occasionally may need to lift up to 25 lbs

Associate degree in Nursing or better in Nursing.
