Position Summary:
Supervises the pharmacy technicians assigned in the Inpatient Pharmacy department. Manages the day-to-day activities of all technical staff including: staff development, evaluating technician performance, assists in various activities of the pharmacy department. Participates in various projects.

Qualifications

Graduation from a technician program in pharmacy technician and four (4) years of technical experience in pharmacy, two (2) years of which were in a supervisory/lead role.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:

Valid State of Nevada Certification Pharmacy Technician and certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

Additional Position Requirements

A minimum of four (4) years Pharmacy Technician experience and two (2) years of which were in a supervisory role in inpatient setting. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of:
Modern principles of supervision; conflict resolution techniques; general chemistry; basic algebra; federal, state and/or county guidelines, rules and regulations associated with the distribution of medications; pharmacy standards of practice; department and hospital safety practice and procedures; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Skill in:

Supervising and evaluating staff; developing staffing plans; developing, implementing and enforcing methods, policies and procedures; preparing and monitoring budgets; applying customer service principles; using computers and related software applications; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and VDT screens, hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work requires handling medications classified as hazardous materials.
