Description

The Registered Nurse prescribes nursing care, delegates nursing activities, and coordinates the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care to provide optimal quality care, consistent with the hospital’s mission and nursing philosophy, objectives, and standards.

  • The level of performance must be measured by Customer Feedback, Documentation and Observation.
  1. Provides appropriate nursing care using the nursing process.
  2. Administers medications safely and effectively.
  3. Demonstrates safe and effective patient care skills such as prevention of hospital acquired infections.
  4. Conducts an assessment of surgical patients during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of surgical care.
  5. Communicating concerns and opportunities with the surgical team and surgeon regarding the patients care.
  6. Demonstrates timely and complete documentation.
  7. Demonstrates appropriate time management.
  8. Utilizes appropriate critical thinking skills.
  9. Demonstrates safe and effective use of patient care equipment.
  10. Demonstrates a proactive approach to the delivery of patient care.
  11. Demonstrates appropriate teaching to patient and families.
  12. Demonstrates accurate interpretation of lab values and reporting of abnormal values.
  13. Adheres to policies and procedures that guide patient care.
  14. Compliance and timely completion of educational requirements.
  15. Monitoring and maintaining the sterile environment
  16. Accepts responsibility and accountability for all aspects of patient care 
  17. Consistently has all items needed for the surgical procedure: special order items, trays and supply items always available for patient care. 
  18. Proactively plans for items needed for subsequent surgical cases
  19. Makes recommendations for changes to preference cards based on the surgeons requests
  20. Actively seeks solutions to meeting turnover times 
  21. Orients new staff to the OR. 


Requirements
  • Current Registered Nurse Licensure to practice in North Carolina.
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers.
  • Successful completion of a hospital and unit-specific orientation which includes age and population specific skills for the area of practice in which the RN will be working and addresses growth and development needs for the patient for whom the RN will be providing nursing care.
