Job Summary:

The Nursing Student Navigator is responsible for assisting nursing students by working with faculty to identify barriers to student success, track at-risk students, provide student advising, academic assistance, academic accommodations and/or counseling referrals, tutoring, remediation, exam review, plan educational offerings, and coordinates and provide skills practice for nursing students.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Must be licensed as RN for two (2) years. 


CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:  Valid RN license.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of clinical nursing procedures and protocols.  Presentation and training skills.  Verbal and written communication skills.   Interpersonal skills.    Knowledge and understanding of computer systems, tools, and programs.  Ability to work in a team environment.   


Responsibilities  

  • Identifies barriers that may impede academic success and determines individual learning style to enhance learning, study skills, and test taking stills. 
  • Identifies resources to enhance the student learning experience. 
  • Plans, coordinates, and provided educational offerings, remediation, exam review, and skills practice for students.  
  • Collaborates with faculty to track students who may be at risk due academic and/or personal barriers. 
  • Collaborates with faculty in classroom, simulation lab, and skills lab setting to enhance the learning experience for students.    
  • Maintains up to date expertise in best practices to promote student success and attends nursing educational offerings and faculty meetings. 
  • Monitors, evaluates and modifies academic success processes and procedures to improve student retention and academic success including data collection on student outcomes for programmatic improvement.
  • Serves as the main resource for coordinating student support, including, but not limited to academic support, mental health support, wellness initiatives, and retention support.

Physical and Environmental Demands
Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, occasional handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, occasional work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking.
