The new hospital, at 109,000 square feet, opened in September 2013. It is a two-story structure with interior design features that integrate Native elements from the Arctic Slope region. All hospital services are located on a single campus. Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital serves the villages of Atqasuk, Kaktovik, Nuiqsut, Point Lay, Utqiagvik, and Wainwright.
