Hours: Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 4:30 PM, with rotating weekend/holiday coverage

Position Overview

Seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrist to provide comprehensive mental health services to Veterans at the Hampton VA Healthcare System. The physician will provide inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care while collaborating with VA Mental Health professionals and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.

Responsibilities

Perform psychiatric evaluations and diagnose mental health conditions.

Develop and manage treatment plans.

Provide psychiatric medication management.

Admit, evaluate, treat, discharge, and transfer inpatient psychiatric patients.

Provide outpatient psychiatric care, including new patient evaluations and follow-up care.

Treat patients with serious mental illness.

Provide psychiatric consultations for inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency Department patients.

Respond to psychiatric emergencies and crises.

Complete required clinical documentation in the VA electronic health record.

Collaborate with physicians, nurses, APPs, and other VA Mental Health professionals.

Provide clinical oversight of residents, interns, medical students, and APPs as required.

Participate in weekend/holiday telephone consultations and callback coverage as scheduled.

Schedule & Patient Volume

Weekdays: Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 4:30 PM

Typical Volume: Approximately patients per psychiatrist per weekday

Weekend/Holiday Coverage: 8:00 AM 4:30 PM as scheduled, with inpatient coverage for up to 40 patients

After-Hours: Weekend and holiday telephone consultation/callback coverage may be required.

Qualifications

MD or DO

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN)

Current, full, active, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia

Current BLS certification

Ability to complete VA credentialing and privileging

Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently

Ability to maintain required licensure, CME, certifications, and VA mandatory training
