Departmental Overview Our Emergency Departments operate 24/7 and provide stabilization and life-saving care to 95,000+ patients each year. We operate as a Level III trauma center, take care of all medical emergencies, specialize in patients with active strokes and heart attacks, work with two dozen EMS agencies, and collaborate with ED physicians, residents, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. Porter ED has 34 beds, HPX ED has 16 beds, and Moore ED has 13 beds. Departmental Overview In our Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, we maintain a fast pace – with a 1:2 or 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio –to meet the needs of those in the most acute phases of cardiac disease. Common problems seen in our unit include post open heart surgery, severe decompensated heart failure/cardiogenic shock, STEMI, aortic dissection, and acute severe valvular dysfunction. Our unit also provides immediate specialized care to other severe and critically ill patients, including respiratory and cardiac failure, sepsis, renal failure, induced hypothermia, and continuous renal replacement therapy. Our Nurses demonstrate highly advanced skills in patient assessment/ intervention, teamwork, and crisis management.
