The Registered Respiratory Therapist reports to the coordinator/director. Capable of setting up and operating various types of equipment to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease and or illness. The therapist provides administration of respiratory specific gases and medications and modes of therapy for the respiratory compromised patient. Responds to emergencies throughout the hospital and analyzes and advises on arterial blood gas results. Inservice patients and families on the use of Respiratory equipment in the home environment. Assists in the transport of mechanically ventilated patients. Takes and records orders from physicians as necessary. Acts as a resource person to nurses, physicians, residents, interns, respiratory staff, students and other hospital staff in regards to initiation and operation of all respiratory procedures. The therapist plans treatment programs and administers modalities and other related procedures, under the prescription of the patient's physician. Treatment will be provided in an interdisciplinary environment consistent with the position's qualifications, professional practices and ethical standards. He/she is responsible for documentation and communication of all necessary information to all appropriate parties.
