JOB SUMMARY
The Nurse Intern at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for performing routine nursing procedures and tasks under the supervision of a nurse, documenting patient information in the electronic health record, and maintaining good standing in the nursing school program. The job requires effective interpersonal skills, the ability to prioritize patient care, and the capability to recognize changes in a patient's condition and report them to the registered nurse.
JOB
FUNCTIONS
Performs routine nursing procedures and tasks related to patients within assigned area under the supervision of a nurse. Documents in the electronic health record as appropriate. This includes vital signs, activities of daily living, weight, intake/ output, and other basic task.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education

Associate's Degree Must be enrolled in one of the final two (2) semesters of a nursing program leading to an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Employment as a Nurse Intern may not extend beyond a two semester period.. Required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Must maintain good standing in the school of nursing where enrolled.

Must be able to use equipment essential for patient care and follow hospital guidelines for non-critical equipment cleaning.

Must meet and maintain continuing education requirements.

Maintains knowledge and resources necessary to provide age appropriate care.

Must be able to recognize changes and abnormalities in the patient’s condition and report to the registered nurse.

Must be able to perform collect blood (by venipuncture), urine and sputum specimen.

Must be able to perform point of care testing for glucose and occult blood.
-
Must be able to insert simple urinary catheters with the assistant of other licensed nurse.

Must be able to prioritize patient care, perform assigned duties and report to the registered nurse/ charge nurse.

Maintain all of the NMHS Behavioral Standards.

Required to project a positive presence and professional image to all patients, families and others.

Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills.
