Job Summary:

The therapist provides outpatient or community/home based therapeutic services to children, families, and adults. The therapist is responsible for providing individual and/or family therapy using therapeutic interventions that are driven by the needs, wants, and desires of the client, and, as dictated by the client's treatment plan. The therapist serves as the leader, director, and coordinator of the treatment team (staff) providing services to the client. The therapist conducts the clinical assessment and develops the initial treatment plan. The therapist is responsible for ongoing monitoring of the treatment plan, the ongoing assessment of the client's needs; and making adjustments to the client's treatment plan as needed. The therapist is responsible for all functions related to coordinating, managing, supporting, and facilitating appropriate services to meet the needs of clients and families.

Education & Experience

LCSW graduate of an accredited college or university

Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required:  Mississippi licensure (LCSW) required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of human behavior and performance; psycho-social methods; child and/or adult psychopathology and diagnostic categories; DSM-IV and general knowledge of mental health and substance abuse diagnosis and best practice treatment courses for such diagnosis; expanded principles of psychology, social work, juvenile justice and other social sciences and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders. Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions and for counseling and guidance. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to gather, record, and analyze data. Ability to assist individuals in recognizing and solving problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct clinical assessments (diagnostic) on clients, and prepares assessment report in timely manner and consistent with UMMC and payer standards.
  • Develops therapeutic relationship with client's family and includes family members in treatment process as necessary and appropriate.
  • Develop initial treatment plan for supportive counseling services with client and client's support system
  • Develop and implement therapy plan for therapeutic services with client.
  • Provide individual, family, and group therapeutic sessions and interventions, most often in the community or client's home, as outlined in the therapy plan, using a strengths-based approach and best practice models.
  • Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with the client and the client's support system, with an awareness of maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Document all services provided to the client and about the client to include all billable services and non-billable services according to UMMC and payer/Medicaid standards. Complete and submit documentation within 24 hours of providing the service.    Consistently complete and submit time sheets and related paperwork on time every pay period.
  • Provide crisis intervention services to clients as necessary. Implement and manage safety plans with client and client's support system as needed.
  • Attend and cooperatively and constructively participate in treatment team, supervision meetings, and required training.   Treatment team meetings can include: staffing, evaluation of intervention, identification of needs, review of monitoring and linking of community based resources for the individual and family.
  • Provide information for court reports and other client related reports as required, and attends court when subpoena.

Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, occasional handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, occasional exposure to bio-hazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, occasional work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds, frequent climbing, frequent crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, frequent pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, frequent twisting, and frequent walking.
