Job Description

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: Cooks/Bakers use their understanding of ingredients and food preparation to craft recipes and create cooked/baked goods. They measure and mix raw ingredients, bake and decorate items, and ensure that all raw and finished goods adhere to quality and food safety standards. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Prepares, monitors and provides food by following appropriate menu, production and delivery schedules in a timely manner. Analyzes product during cooking, taste test product for adjustment and remove when cooked. Produces and creates food products to meet quality and board of health standards. Keep assigned work area, tools and equipment clean according to master cleaning schedule (including trash disposal). Work with appliances to bake/cook products that meet the highest quality, freshness, and safety standards. Insures all food in refrigerator, freezer, and dry storage are labeled and dated. Oversees proper food handling and utilization of all foods to prevent contamination, increase quality, and reduce cost. Conduct self in a calm and purposeful manner during stressful situations Contributes to a non-discriminating, non-hostile environment Completes assignments within the time constraints allowed Communicates issues in regards to safety, patients, and/or uncomplicated tasks to peers, supervisors and subordinates as appropriate Receives and processes written and oral instructions to allow employee to prepare type and quantity of food, as well as, size portions. Ability to prepare and produce baked goods and desserts as per required dietary restrictions (GF, Vegan, kosher, lactose free) Is knowledgeable of and assists with implementation of policies and procedures, protocols, standards and guidelines as regards to tasks. Actively participates in unit/hospital cost saving and productivity initiatives. Use resources efficiently. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE High school graduate or GED equivalent preferred. 1 Year Quantity cooking experience. Ability to read dials and documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries and complaints from customers. Ability to convey information to others that has been learned. Ability to retain patterns of behavior once trained. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Physical Demands/Work Environment Work requires a variety of physical activities, including moving about within and outside of all hospital properties for long periods of time. Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
