Job Description:

General Description: Under the general direction of the Specialty Pharmacy Director, the Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the management of the non-oncology, ambulatory clinical pharmacy services at OU Health.

Essential Responsibilities:

Establishes, coordinates, implements, and provides all aspects of non-oncology, ambulatory clinical pharmacy activities with emphasis on therapeutic drug monitoring, clinical pathways, formulary management, pharmacoeconomics and patient outcomes.

Develops and implements policies, practices and procedures for non-oncology, ambulatory  clinical pharmacy services, ensuring compliance with The Joint Commission and other regulatory standards including the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy.

Responsible for the operational management of assigned non-oncology, ambulatory clinical service areas in accordance with hospital philosophies, goals, and objectives to ensure the consistent provision of high-quality patient care and clinical service growth.

Serves as a liaison to the OU College of Pharmacy for experiential/residency programs.

Facilitates the development, implementation and maintenance of systems that promote desirable patient outcomes using safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapies.

Provides management interventions related to pharmacy related issues of patient care through communication with physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals.

Supervises non-oncology, ambulatory clinical pharmacy staff and is responsible for interviewing, hiring, coaching, evaluating and disciplining staff.

Actively participates in the professional development of staff through delegation, counseling related to performance progress and completes performance evaluation forms as scheduled.

Identifies opportunities for proactive change in the medication-use system to improve patient safety.

Minimum Qualifications:


Graduate of an accredited pharmacy degree program. Completion of a PGY1 ASHP- accredited residency program required. Completion of PGY2 ASHP-accredited residency program is preferred.


Three (3) years of clinical pharmacy experience in non-oncology, ambulatory is required. Supervisory/managerial experience preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:  Licensed as a Doctor of Pharmacy (D.Ph.) by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy.  Certificate as a preceptor by the Oklahoma Board of Pharmacy when eligible. Board Certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of current pharmacy related rules, regulations, requirements, and standards.
Knowledge related to one or more of the clinical service areas.
Supervisory skills.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Must be proficient in the management skills of planning, controlling, coordinating, and measuring departmental activities.
Good computer skills.
