Job Description

The primary purpose of the Fleet Supervisor position is to provide for the orderly operation of the fleet operations, supervise Vehicle Maintenance Mechanics performing a variety of mechanical work involved in the maintenance and repair of the motor vehicles and equipment. Handles issues requiring problem solving or decision making, completes all required reports and documentation and enforces operational policies and procedures. Observes and evaluates employee performance, provides leadership and direction to Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic personnel. Works in concert with other mechanics and as a member of the automotive service team under the direction of the EMS Operations Coordinator. Acts as a department liaison, evaluates and confirms services performed by outside vendors. Works in all weather conditions. Qualifications The Fleet Supervisor must have at least five (5) years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of varied types of automotive and motorized equipment, of which at least two (2) years of experience will have been in the maintenance and repair of emergency vehicles is required. Two years of supervisory experience or lead capacity is strongly preferred. Must have two (2) years of driving experience with a good driving record. ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in one (1) or more categories is required and must be maintained for continued employment. Valid Driver’s License with NJ driving privileges. Valid Commercial Driver’s License Class B with Passenger Endorsement or obtain same within twelve (12) months of date of hire to maintain employment. Computer literacy with relevant software packages required. Credentials required: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in one (1) or more categories is required. Valid Driver’s license with NJ driving privileges. Driver’s license must be in accordance with the DOT/MVC regulations for the type/size/weight of the vehicle(s) as assigned. Valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class B with Passenger Endorsement or obtain same within twelve (12) months of date of hire to maintain employment.   Primary source verification: Motor Vehicle Commission, University Hospital's designated Background Check Company   PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The Fleet Supervisor must be in excellent physical condition and will, on a routine and daily basis, be required to see colors, hear voice, phone, and radio communications, read, speak and communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, smell, sit, stand, walk, lift, operate a motor vehicle, and operate computer, wireless, and other electronic equipment. The Fleet Supervisor will, on a routine and daily basis, reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, handle or feel. Good manual dexterity and intermittent moderate to heavy physical exertion are required when performing job activities. The Fleet Supervisor must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. frequently and up to 100 lbs. occasionally.   WORK ENVIRONMENT: The Fleet Supervisor must be able to work in all weather and environmental conditions, including varying or extreme temperatures, and lift and move tools, equipment, and parts in all circumstances. The Fleet Supervisor will be intermittently exposed to moderate or greater noise (examples: shop tools, equipment). In certain situations, The Fleet Supervisor may be required to kneel, crawl, climb or jump.
