In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Registered Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care and patient teaching with emphasis on oncology and provides direction of ancillary personnel. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.
Job Requirement:
Current licensure in the State of Ohio as a Registered Nurse.
Current BLS certification.
RNs administering chemotherapy will obtain chemo/biotherapy certification within one year of hire and will maintain current certification
Verbal, clerical, IV Therapy skills, and manual dexterity, color vision and near visual acuity, proper lifting techniques and body mechanics.
Job Functions:
Performs frequent rounding on patients receiving intravenous medication assessing for potential adverse reaction and/or intravenous site patency.
Obtains required patient assessments and reassessments per nursing policy.
Develops a plan of care and teaching plan based on assessed needs of patient and family. Revises as needed per hospital policy.
Coordinates timely, adequate teaching to patient/family/significant other in preparation for their established plan of care. Implements and monitors nursing interventions.
Consistently documents assessments, interventions and outcomes in Mosaiq with an emphasis on real time documentation.
Participates in interdisciplinary discussions and collaborates with team members to identify patient needs.
Recognizes changes in patient conditions and reports to provider promptly.
Effectively manages patient care and delegates appropriately according to the needs of the patient and the skill of the caregiver.
Utilizes appropriate interpersonal communication which facilitates productive relationships with other team members.
Facilitates a positive and caring relationship with others by utilizing trust and mutual respect.
Establishes a therapeutic relationship between patient, family and self, based on empathy and trust.
Promotes a positive patient experience.
Maintains current knowledge of available patient resources and seeks assistance for the patient as needed.
Maintains current knowledge of and practices within the scope of hospital policies.
Clarifies any unclear communication between members of the healthcare team.
Uses proper channels of authority in communicating information.
Participates in data collection and process improvement exercises to maintain optimal patient outcomes.
Demonstrates competence with venipuncture, central venous access, and care of both peripheral and central venous access devices according to established policy and procedure.
Demonstrates knowledge of mechanism of action, potential side effects, and proper administration techniques of all medications administered in the oncology/infusion area. Demonstrates knowledge of available resources to obtain this information as needed.
Utilizes personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to toxic agents and demonstrates knowledge of proper intervention in the event of an exposure.
Demonstrates knowledge of efficient action necessary in the event of an extravasation of chemotherapeutic agents and other intravenous irritants.
Maintains compliance in RQI.
Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
Compensation Details: Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. Minimum hiring rate for this position is listed below.
