Description

The Physician Assistant (PA) in the division of Clinical Genetics provides clinical support on the inpatient units and/or outpatient clinic settings on patients with complex metabolic conditions including lysosomal storage disorders. The PA participates in medical examinations, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric conditions, and in special therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Responsibilities include obtaining histories, performing physical examinations, communicating treatment plans, obtaining and evaluation required laboratory tests and assisting in the comprehensive care of patients. The PA functions under an attending physician and in collaboration with other health care professionals to diagnose and manage patient’s health care needs. The PA is a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, patient advocate. The PA demonstrates commitment to a patient and family focused model of care. Within a teaching hospital the expectation is to teach trainees including but not limited to medical students, residents and genetic counseling students. This position is an 80% FTE 50% The Physician Assistant (PA) provides clinical support on the inpatient unitsand/or outpatient clinic settings Assist with inpatient rounds on metabolic patients, to be supervised byattending physician on service. This will include assessing patients, writing notes, gathering labs and other data, and communicating with the primary team and specialty services. Staffing one or more outpatient clinics with essential physician supervision to care for patients with conditions such as PKU, which includes performing history and physical examinations, writing notes, discussing care plans with patients, and prescribing medication under supervision. Staffing one or more clinics seeing patients with moderate physician supervision for patients with complex metabolic conditions including lysosomal storage disorders. This includes performing history and physical examinations,writing notes, discussing care plans with patients, and prescribing medicationunder supervision. 20% OtherAdministrative: Participate in decision making with newborn screening cases with physician supervision. Organize treatments for lysosomal disease patients including writing order plans for enzyme replacement and other treatments, doing phone and/or in person follow ups, and ordering screening tests and exams. 10% Participate in clinicaltrials The PA also participates in interdisciplinary and clinical rounds, provides education and support, as well as makes appropriate referrals and documentsservices rendered Salary Range: $70.65- $95.07
Qualifications

* 2 years or more as a PA in a clinical genetics setting preferably with metabolic experience -required * Master's degree is required, and a graduate of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)-required * Current PA licensure, PA certification in the State of California, certification as a Physician Assistant by a nationally accredited Physician Assistant organization (NCCPA) and American Heart Association CPR/BLS certification- required * Working knowledge of computer including EMR-required * Demonstrated oral and written communication and interpersonal skills-required Strong organizational skills -required Demonstrated ability to be a team player-required Ability to work flexible hours-required Skill in answering inquiries by phone, email and mail correspondence-required
