JOB SUMMARY:
Promotes the delivery of quality patient care through implementation of the nursing process for all age groups cared for on the unit. Functions as a patient advocate, assists with financial control and cost effective functioning of the unit: participates in the evaluation of the unit personnel; and assists with professional growth and development of staff. Will ensure Russell Medical Center’s values, goals, policies and procedures are consistently supported and enforced.
DEPARTMENT: Surgical Services: Seven operating rooms + a C-section room on the third floor. Average around 250 cases per month, with about 85%- 90% being outpatient procedures. We do all surgical specialties except, cardiac, neuro, or plastics. Most common procedures: gallbladder, hernia, c-section, knee scopes, ENT procedures, cystoscopes. We do total joints; knees, hips, and some shoulders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Associate’s degree in Nursing
EXPERIENCE: None required
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS: Current Registered Nurse license by Alabama Board of Nursing or Compact Registered Nurse license
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, WORK AIDS: Knowledge of computers and computers systems to include Meditech, Order-entry, and ORM systems. Office equipment (copiers, fax machines, phone systems) Patient therapeutic equipment (vital sign machines, weight scales, pulse oximetry, DVT prevention devices, IV pumps, O2 and suction equipment, defibrillator/pacer)
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of appropriate patient population growth and development. Skillful in verbal and non-verbal communication. Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision in high stress fast paced environment. Ability to understand and follow the policies and procedures of Russell Medical Center and regulatory agencies’ standards and rules. Able to formulate judgments based on the recognition of normal physiology and signs and symptoms of disease processes.
