JOB SUMMARY
The Neurodiagnostic Technologist at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for performing high-quality Electromyograms (EMG) on patients of varying age groups and preparing them for Nerve Conduction studies. They demonstrate expertise in conducting initial and ongoing patient assessments, ensuring compliance with testing procedures, and maintaining accurate records. With a strong foundation in anatomy and technology, along with excellent communication skills and problem-solving abilities, they play a pivotal role in optimizing patient care and safety within the Neurology department.
JOB
FUNCTIONS
Performs quality Electromyograms (EMG) on adolescents, adults and geriatric patients as ordered by physician with appropriate ordering privileges.
Prepares patients for Nerve Conduction studies and performs all follow-up calculations and documentation.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for patients requiring these modalities.
Performs initial and ongoing patient assessment to assure appropriate understanding and compliance with testing procedures, patient safety, and ability of patient to effectively participate in the testing.
Continuously monitors patient activity and maintains quality recordings through recognition and correction of artifactual data, while remaining vigilant of patient safety and comfort.
Maintains records to provide complete clinical information and to assure accurate patient charging.
Assures that equipment and supplies are available to assure quality patient care.
Maintains inventories, makes copies.
Properly cleans reusable equipment and maintains liquid sterilant according to manufacturer instructions.
Performs maintenance and calibration on all testing equipment as prescribed by manufacturer.
Serves as a resource person for other departments.
Acts as point of contact for issues pertaining to neurodiagnostic testing.
Collects and analyzes Performance Improvement data, including appointment delay times.
Clinical duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Or equivalent. Required
Licenses and Certifications
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). . Upon Hire. Required And
. Voluntary credentials. Upon Hire. Preferred
Work Experience
1-3 years. Minimum of two years of experience as Neurodiagnostic Tech. Preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
The incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of the anatomy and technology associated with the various studies performed
Computer skills adequate to interact with the various testing systems required.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills required to proficiently provide care to a patient population to include: neonates, infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
The incumbent will serve as a resource for physicians and other staff.
The incumbent must be able to organize and prioritize departmental responsibilities to optimize quality patient care.
The incumbent will have significant contact with inter- and intra-departmental personnel, physicians, and their office personnel, and the public.
It is imperative that he/she have good communication skills and reflect a positive, caring attitude toward both staff and public
