Medical Director of Interventional Cardiology
Duties and Responsibilities
The PHYSICIAN, as Medical Director, shall be responsible for the leadership, management, and administration of all physician services for Interventional Cardiology including the Cardiac Cath Labs (CCL). As it relates to Interventional Cardiology and the Cardiac Cath Labs, the Medical Director will work closely with the Service Line Medical and Administrative Directors, CCL/EPL Director and Nurse Manager, fellow Interventional Cardiologists, and other staff to ensure operational efficiency, effective utilization, evidence-based clinical protocols, and quality outcomes. The medical Director will support CaroMont Health and the service line’s mission, vision, and goals. Specifically, the Medical Director will be responsible for the following:
1. Safety and Quality
- Meet with Cardiology Service Line Leaders. Medical Staff, and other representatives as necessary to review overall outcomes and identify necessary actions to maintain and improve performance against SL metrics and provide support and input for implementation of action plan as needed.
- When requested, review and revise Interventional Cardiology protocols and order sets as necessary to reflect current best practices.
- Provide input, by conferring with the CCL Director and Nurse Manager, and assist in providing "in-service" training opportunities where appropriate, regarding programs for the training and education of Cath Lab and Hospital personnel, and in accordance with prepared education calendar.
- Assist with training of Medical Staff members as indicated for new procedures or proctoring.
- Plan and assist in conducting the Cardiac Catheterization Conference.
- Review, evaluate, and recommend system wide operational, procedural, and organizational improvements.
- Participating in the assessment, introduction, and outcomes evaluation of new clinical technologies and techniques.
- If and when appropriate, participate in establishing and managing clinical research programs.
2. Cost
- Help to assist, when appropriate, with Hospital supply cost reduction strategies.
- Confer with Medical Staff leadership and others regarding above subjects.
- Meet with Service Line Directors to report on meetings with physicians and implementation of best practices.
3. People (Physician and Staff Relations)
- Serve as liaison to Medical Staff and Hospital Administration, and to other hospital departments, attending and actively participating in Executive, Administrative and Medical Staff meetings, and selected committee meetings, as requested.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary activities as they relate to development and growth of interventional cardiology programs.
- Participate in Interventional and Surgical Value Analysis Teams for the management of costs and proactive responsible vendor relationships.
- Meet on a quarterly basis with Cardiovascular Service Line physicians, staff, administrative team and executives regarding departmental issues and opportunities.
- Participate in staff development and health work environment initiatives to improve staff experience, engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
4. Delivery and Cost (Business Development)
- Assist in the preparation of the capital and operating budgets.
- Advise and consult with Hospital Administration regarding acquisition of and improvements to medical equipment and facilities.
- Attend site visits as requested to help assess prospective business or operational opportunities.
- Promote growth and expansion of services consistent with the operating philosophy, goals, and objectives of CaroMont Health.
- Assist in recruiting new members to Cardiology as needed.
