General Description
The Security Officer II provides security services for OU Health by responding to incidents, assisting law enforcement interactions, and mentoring entry-level officers. This role builds on the foundational duties of Level I by taking on more complex tasks and reinforcing departmental policies through example and support.
Essential Responsibilities

Patrol designated areas as assigned.
Write parking tickets for illegally parked vehicles.
Investigate complaints, disturbances and thefts by completing a concise and factual report in accordance with policies and procedures.
Operate two-way communication system to send and receive messages following appropriate radio protocol.
Record detailed shift activities and assist in compiling official documentation for internal review; May assist in reviewing less senior staff logs and forms for completeness.
Assist in the training of new officers as assigned; may direct and review work of Security staff and review officer incident reports to ensure completeness.
Coordinate movement of law enforcement personnel within OU Health facilities and ensure alignment with hospital policy during official visits and investigations.
Serve as a point of contact for external agency inquiries; provide relevant security information and assistance during active investigations in accordance with OU Health protocols.
Respond to emergency alarms and fire department calls; assess situations and report hazards or irregularities promptly to the appropriate authority.
Assist in restraining individuals who are disruptive or in violation of the law in the OU Health Facilities, parking garages, lots and/or grounds while on duty.

Education Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience Requirements
At least 3 years of experience required.
License/Certification/Registration Requirements
Valid driver’s license required. Must be a State of Oklahoma issued driver’s license within 30 days of Oklahoma residency.
Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer issued by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety required within 6 months of hire.
Management of Aggressive Behavior certification required within 45 days of hire.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Understanding of how to implement and follow established security procedures.
Knowledge of laws related to security, such as those concerning use of force, trespassing and emergency procedures.
Familiarity with surveillance systems, alarm systems, access control systems and other relevant technologies.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to carefully observe surroundings, identify potential threats and notice suspicious activity.
Ability to de-escalate tense situations, negotiate peacefully and resolve conflicts effectively.
Ability to assess situations, make quick decisions and take appropriate action in emergency situations.
Strong customer service skills when addressing inquiries and assisting individuals.
